Edison Rey was a musician who attended Hialeah Gardens Senior High School from 2011-2015. He was well-known for his dedication to the musical arts as well as his charisma; Edison always knew how to excite a crowd, whether he was singing or playing the piano, xylophone, or accordion. He won several Talent Shows in-school and performed for the Hispanic Heritage Show alongside professional performers, wearing the pride he had for his Colombian heritage on his vocal cords. Edison even had the opportunity to perform on Telemundo, on Premios Juventud, on the Spanish Music Awards, and with Prince Royce.
In 2015, Edison Rey graduated from HGHS with an Honors degree and the legacy of having been the first accordion player in the Gladiator Band. He was offered numerous scholarships to further his studies in college, and his plans included going to medical school in the University of Florida. But unfortunately, Edison began to suffer from headaches that were soon diagnosed as a form of brain cancer. Despite treatment, the cancer spread and became terminal.
Edison Rey passed away in July 2016.
Though he will be missed, his spirit remains in the hearts of many who are inspired to continue being optimistic and joyful in the face of adversity. He is still remembered for his talent and ambition, and the ability he ahd to put a smile on the face of every friend, family, and audience.
