"Me and My Sister" 12/12/16
While running through a box of arts-and-crafts full of things I made when I was young, I came across a small drawing of two stick figures playing under a crooked sun. It was titled “Me and My Sister.” I don’t have a sister, and my parents have never been separated in order for me to have a step-sister. How could this be, then? Have my parents not been telling me something? Do I actually have a sister or was it my imagination? I was feeling both excited and quite terrified by this shocking discovery. I also felt a bit of anger. How could my parents keep such crucial information like this from me? My head was spinning with questions when I heard a car pull up at the driveway. My heart sank but then started rapidly beating as I ran downstairs to quiz my parents. I felt nauseous, but I stood up straight and showed them the drawing. “Mom, Dad. Do I have a sister?” They looked at me with confusion written all over their faces. After a while of complete silence, my mom decided to speak “Lilly, honey, you don’t have a sister. This was probably your imagination. After all, it still is kind of active.” I wanted to accept what my mom told me but I just couldn’t shake off the weird feeling I had. I later locked myself in my room and decided to brainstorm as to what led me to draw that picture. Was it really my imagination? As I was pacing, I saw a small glint out of the corner of my eye. “Hmm?” I looked over at the box I was rummaging through earlier and went towards it. I instantly saw a small bracelet with a tag on it. “There’s no way I missed seeing this earlier.” I turned over the tag and there was a small amount of writing on it. It read: ‘To: Lilly, From: Sissy’. I looked in the mirror and saw that I had turned pale. But there was something else off to the side of the mirror. A figure. . .
